Foundations of Inventory
This session will provide attendees a high-level overview of inventory and the three large aspects of inventory management: Demand Forecasting, ordering, and pricing. It will impart the importance of inventory management, as well as the goals every inventory manager should keep top of mind. It will also explore the terms, acronyms, and language typically used in veterinary inventory management.
Effective Demand Forecasting
This session will help veterinary inventory managers forecast demand, using their practice management and purchasing systems to determine how much product is used at the hospital, and ultimately how much product to order (and how frequently). It will also explore methods for keeping track of stock levels, and best practices for aligning staff to inventory tracking systems put in place.
Efficient Ordering and Receiving
This session will explore principles and methods for ordering products, including best practices for time efficiency. It will also evaluate methods of reducing inventory costs, and weigh the various factors that impact purchase decisions. Additionally, this session will impart best practices in receiving and restocking inventory, including 3-way matching and practice management system updating. Finally, this session will explore budgeting principles and methods for tracking budget.
Understanding Veterinary Purchasing
This session will examine the veterinary purchasing landscape holistically, helping veterinary inventory managers understand where products come from, how they are priced for sale, and how the various parties involved are compensated. It will also explore vendor pricing across product categories, as well as how hospital staff can be a good partner to their vendors and build mutually-beneficial relationships with them. Lastly, this session will explore some of the consolidation trends and new service provider categories that impact the purchasing landscape.
